Data Visualisation Is Not Data Science! Or Is It? - A Debate

Date & Time : Thursday 11 January 2018, 6.00pm - 9.30pm
Venue : BCS, 1st Floor, The Davidson Building, 5 Southampton Street, London, WC2E 7HA

Speakers : Sayara Beg, Sabine McNeill

Abstract

Data visualisation is a fundamental tenet of data science, along with other aspects like statistics, high performance computing and infrastructures. However, in reality, data visualisation goes beyond conventional notions simply visualising data. By encapsulating and embedding rather rich set of operations as part of the data visualisation, it is possible to extend data visualisation to cover most of the data science. In this debate, the speakers, who are both industrialists, will discuss this in great detail.

About the Speakers

Ms Sayara Beg (FORS, DTM) is a Chief Data Scientist and a Data Governance Strategist at Datanut Sciences, which exels on Data Science education. She is also a Fellow of the Operational Research Society, a member of the IET and a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.

Sabine McNeill is a mathematician and software designer, who was previously working at CERN in Geneva. Currently, she is working on techniques for multi-layer visualisation of multi-dimensional data for gaining better insights.
